I prefer to air dry too. My tip for great curls is to try the Curly Girl method - not just styling products, but turning the whole way most of us treat our hair on its head. The thing that made the biggest difference was stopping using shampoos based on sulphates and other anionic surfactants, that reduced the fluff/ pouf significantly within a week. After that getting serious moisture back into my hair which took place over weeks to months.
Recently I used hairspray and silicones for the first time in over a year (wedding) and only switched back from three weeks of stringy lank waves to bouncy shiny ringlets when I washed the last of that c*@p out and put coconut oil in. This is the thread that gave me my lightbulb moment
