Love to see that jewelry collection! Bethany's too. I've got quite a bit but it's the shoes that win for me. (embarrassing). |
When I get back in town I'll post some pics in a private album webshots on webshots and send you a link.
To give you a few hints, I am into monograms (who cares if they aren't mine, lol), intaglios, european cut diamonds, cognac diamonds, and deco jewelry in general.
And unfortunately, I have to purge periodically to support the habit, sigh. |

I agree Fawnie!
I would also suggest reading the book Color Me Beautiful. It's an old book you can get from the library. They have updated versions, but I like the version from the '80's. Knowing what colors flatter me has cut down on shopping time and saved me money. I have a small wardrobe, but I feel good about the clothes that I own. |

When I first walked into her seminar I was disappointed because I wondered the same thing. Most of the population are Autumn types in terms of their coloring so I'm guessing that's why she chose that series to show. It also has to do with "essence" and personality. I spent $1.99 to take the Essence test and it confirmed my belief that I was a Spring, but then I was an equal amount of the other seasons but half the score of the Spring answers. I think that is where Jennifer's expertise comes into play, to help integrate those facets.
There are very few Springs in the population at large with a few more Winters. There was one woman who looked a lot like me in coloring and I absolutely loved everything she was wearing.
Jennifer breaks these categories down into sub-categories. I think she said there are 64. Jennifer is a Dramatic Winter. The Autumn types varied from wearing lots of beads and Indian inspired fabrics with lots of texture to tailored outfits in mustard/rust/green to smooth, comfortable yoga drapey outfits. Texture depends on hair. The curlier your hair is the more texture you can layer on.
Seems rather complicated but then it is more personalized than the Four Seasons approach.
Here are some tips:
Your neckline should echo your face shape -- long or oval face wear a V neck, square face wear a square or straight neckline, round face a scoop or crew neck.
If you have a large head and large features, you can wear large dramatic jewelry and fabric prints. If you have a small head with small, even features, you'd go smaller. If you have a long neck and a long or oval face, you can wear dangling earrings and necklaces that dangle down to echo the oval/length of your face. If you have a round or square face you follow those lines. It's about making fashion your own personal statement rather than what Vogue wants you to wear.
Wear your hair color for your belt, bag and shoes.
She gives you your Power colors to wear for business or when you need a boost, and your (forget what they are called) relationship colors to draw people to you. They tend to reflect your complexion, which is a combo of two colors, like gold and rose, for example, or nude and purple. Power color is based on your eyes but a very specific facet which I couldn't quite see in my own eyes because I didn't know what to look for.
You can still incorporate trends into your style but sometimes you will not buy anything that season if it doesn't suit you.
I am fairly confident of my colors, just need fine tuning. It's style where I need the help. Not sure what looks not just good, but great. |
