This is one for those people who can't wash their hair with shampoo everyday or who use the CO cleansing method. Spray in dry shampoo is sometimes an option. I've always thought it was a nifty idea but never bothered to actually take the time to check the ingredients list.
The active ingredient in Dry Shampoo is....oryza sativa. In other words, rice flour. The rest are just propellants, alcohol and preservatives. Well it doesn't take a genius to realise that you don't need to pay $12.00 for a can of spray on rice flour. Especially when you can buy it for about $2 a kilo.
I suffer from the oily roots dry ends syndrome of anyone with wavy hair. So today I tried the rice flour rubbed into my roots and then brushed out as a way to remove the excess oil. Yep it works. I used about 1/2 tsp and massaged it in with my hands then used a boar bristle brush to brush it out. No trace of rice flour left behind and I imagine you could even scent it with a few drops of essential oil blended into a large amount of rice flour to give it a bit more of something. As a day two wash method, it's pretty good.. |
