Thou shall be beautiful
A friend once told professional makeup artist Noreen Young that beautiful people are
a dime a dozen, but someone who is beautiful inside and out is a rare thing. To help
you obtain inner and outer beauty she offers the Ten Commandments of Beauty.
1. Learn to relax; inner peace begins inside a properly rested and
relaxed body.
2. Time waits for no one, so take some time out for you now.
3. Keep smiling; it takes 47 muscles to frown and only 17 to smile.
4. If you have a bad day, try to turn it around.
5. Rejuvenate your skin with a home-care regimen.
6. Learn to do or try something new.
7. Surround yourself with lovely things and positive, happy and
fun-loving people.
8. Noreen says, A women without lipstick is like a day without
sunshine.
9. Practice a pulled-together look. You never get a second chance to
make a first impression.
10. Learn to say thank you when someone compliments you on
anything. There is something beautiful about you! Never criticize yourself!
UV ABCs
Most understand why ultraviolet radiation is bad for your skin; you probably understand
that it is a leading factor in skin cancer and premature aging. What many of you might not
understand is that there is a difference in how certain ultraviolet rays affect your
skin.UVA rays are what cause skin to begin the premature aging process as well as dryness,
leathery appearance and discoloration. This is due to the manner in which UVA rays
penetrate deep into the dermis and destroy natural collagen. In addition, UVA rays filter
though the ozone layer daily. from dawn to dusk, which make the skin more susceptible to
this type of radiation.UVB rays are what cause skin to burn, and unlike customary beliefs
skin is receiving radiation even when it is only becoming pink. The fact of the matter is
that a tan is nothing more than skin that has been damaged from radiation. UVB rays have
been found to be more prevalent between the hours of 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM.UVC radiation is
deadly to plant and animal life, but thanks to the earths ozone layer this
wavelength is filtered out and is not a current cause for concern. The effects of
ultraviolet radiation are bombarding your skin constantly; this process starts from the
time you are very young and continues through out your life. It is therefore your
responsibility to take care of your skin by using sunscreen, wearing hats and avoiding the
sun when possible. For tips on protecting your skin from UVA and UVB rays, talk with a
skin care professional. This is the only skin youll have ... look after it.
Holistic skin therapy
Herbal and nutritional remedies have been practiced in the United States and other Western
countries for an extended period of time, but the same principles known so well can be
found in the East Indian practice of ayurveda and traditional Chinese medicine. The
concept of restoring the skin though activation, building and cleansing is an idea that
has been expressed worldwide for centuries, and is a useful process that should be looked
into more closely. Activation encourages the skin to generate healthy new cells while
supporting the immune system as it guides reconstruction. A good example of skin
activation would be the use of fruit acid to stimulate cell turnover, while supplementing
the diet with basic immunostimulant herbs. Activation not only comes from the outside but
also from within; to enhance positive energy, try acupressure, Reiki healing, homeopathic
preparations, aromatherapy, prayer and meditation. Building requires satisfying
nutritional deficiencies and provides a basis for the production of healthier skin.
Incorporating items such as cold-water fish, whole grains, seeds, tree nuts and juices
will help return skins balance. In addition, be sure to drink water and consider
supplements with bin-available minerals to help replenish the common deficiencies found in
the average American diet. Cleansing involves ridding the body of residual toxins and
irritants so that more of its energy can be directed to repair and maintenance. When
toxins are stored in the body they use up the energy that is supposed to restore the skin,
which contributes to poor health issues. To eliminate toxins, stop putting chemical
additives, processed foods, refined sugar, fats, Hour, cooked animal proteins, caffeine,
alcohol and nicotine into the body and stimulate the body to release stored materials by
drinking water, or using herbs as nutritional aids. Skin care professionals also offer
treatments that can aid in detoxifying your body. Let your esthetician help you determine
what services will best suit you and what you can do to more easily facilitate your
holistic well-being. As always, consult with your physician before taking any
non-prescription supplements.
