Winter Protection
As is a wool sweater and warm clothing, a sunscreen also should be part of your winter
wardrobe. A newly released study from Johnson & Johnson Consumer Products Company, a
division of Johnson & Johnson Consumer Companies Inc., found that were getting
more of the suns harmful ultraviolet rays that we might expect: about 19 hours each
week, regardless of the season.
"Incidental time spent in the sun accounts for a significant part of lifetime sun
exposure, and in actuality about 80% is usually accumulated by the age of 18,
says Diane S. Berson, MD, a New York dermatologist who specializes in the treatment of
aging skin, skin cancer and acne. With improved habits and new treatments, however,
some of the suns damaging effects can be reversed.
"The result of this study is a wake-up call that people should protect their skin any
time they go outside, not just at the beach or pool, but also when commuting to and from
work or going to the grocery store, she continues.
Everyone should wear a sunscreen of at least SPF 15 every day. Here are some

Onychomycosis?
An overwhelming 11 million Americansone in 22suffers from onychomycosis,
or nail fungus, according to The Foot Health Foundation of American, the education arm
of the American Podiatric Medical Association.
Left untreated, nail fungus can progress until the nail plate becomes
quite painful as it detaches and deteriorates, leading to decreased mobility and
restricted use of certain types of shoes. However, with proper detection and treatment,
the condition can be cured before spreading to other toenails, fingernails or even the
skin.
More common on the feet than on the hands, the infections are caused by both fungus and
yeast. Common symptoms of an infection include discoloration, and hardening and
thickening of the nail plate. Those at a particular risk include people who work with
their hands or on their feet, athletes, laborers, the elderly and those who suffer from
compromised immune systems or other chronic conditions such as diabetes. Sports shoes,
swimming pools, showers and locker rooms are common sources of infection.
How to avoid such a problem? Have regular manicures and pedicures. At the first sign of
a fungal nail infection, seek the insight of your physician.

By now, youve probably seen this unique word (pronounced fung schway, by the way!)
in various articles and book titles. But, what does it mean? How does it relate to you?
Have you ever noticed how great your business or home feels after youve arranged it
with a special purpose in mind? Do you wish the great mood you created would last longer?
If so, you may benefit from applying Feng Shuithe Chinese words for wind and
waterprinciple elements in your life.
Perhaps youve heard positive reports from major corporations and financial
institutions that used Feng Shui to enhance success and prosperity. More than likely, you
thought that Feng Shui was too esoteric, expensive or out of reach for the average
person. Not so! Today, the principles and practices of Feng Shui are more down-to-earth
and applicable to our lives that ever before. Feng Shui is more than the practice of
geomancy, spatial arrangement or architectural design. It is a philosophy or way of
seeing the world.
Feng Shui is an ancient art of placement that originated in Asia several thousand years
ago. For more information on the history, theory and concepts of the various Feng Shui
systems, peruse the excellent sources on this subject in your local public library or bookstore.
